Bedford Schools

The Bedford School system encompasses two smaller elementary schools, two larger elementary schools, one combined elementary, junior high school that offering grades primary to grade 9, a junior high school (7-9) and a senior high school (10-12).

The lower elementary grades, children in most cases, attend the school closest to where they live. Most children are within walking distance to the early elementary schools. Bussing is provided for those children who live more than 2.6 kms from the school.

Children in grades 7-9 attend either Bedford Junior High or Bedford South. Basically the students who live in the Papermill Lake area attend Bedford South and the rest of Bedford attend Bedford Junior High School. All children walk to Bedford South and almost all children are bussed to Bedford Junior High. Every child in Bedford attend the same senior high school, Charles P. Allen. Most are bussed to this school. Bedford is only 3 miles long so no child is on a bus long.

Early French Immersion (P-6) is available in Bedford but not in all elementary schools. As of January 2009 Early French Immersion was available in Fort Sackville and Eaglewood schools. Children from all over Bedford are able to attend the Early Immersion program at these schools. However if there are more children registered than spaces available the residents who live in the boundary for the schools have priority. There is Late French Immersion offered at Bedford Junior High, Bedford South and CP Allen High School. If french immersion is important to you check with the school directly because things are constantly changing. It is important to note that if your child is enrolled in french immersion they may attend a different school than a child in the same neighbourhood who is not enrolled in french immersion.
